Scheduled Reporting & Data Sync

Cron-driven exports and sync jobs that move data between the app, spreadsheets, and partner APIs on a timetable.

Backend / automation LaravelMySQLSchedulerPython

Overview

Managers should not export CSVs by hand every morning. Scheduled commands pull aggregates from MySQL, write files to storage, email links to finance, or push rows to a partner API when credentials allow.

Imports mirror exports: a dropped file or API page can upsert products, prices, or stock levels with dry-run mode and row-level error reporting before anything touches production data.

Problem

Teams copied numbers from the admin into Excel, introduced typos, and worked from stale sheets.

Solution

Scheduler entries with monitored exit codes, export jobs versioned by date, and import jobs that validate before commit.

Architecture

Laravel scheduler triggers artisan commands. Heavy transforms may delegate to a Python helper script invoked from the command. Logs rotate and alert on failure when monitoring is configured.

Challenges

Partial imports when half the rows fail validation. Transactions and per-row error files keep the database consistent.

Outcomes

Reports arrive on time without a person running them. Sync frequency matches the business, not the engineer’s memory.
